At Community Animal Hospital, we take dental care very seriously, providing the most advanced techniques available for our patients. Dental disease is the most commonly diagnosed condition in pet dogs and cats. We see a variety of dental related problems in our patients from periodontal disease, to fractured teeth to resorptive lesions in cats. Pets are experts at hiding the symptoms of these painful conditions, many of which are totally preventable. Poor oral health can contribute to the worsening of other chronic diseases such as heart, kidney and liver disease as well as causing general discomfort and malaise.

Professional Pet Dental Assessment and Cleaning
We are equipped with a dental suite that is outfitted with its own separate monitors and digital dental radiography. Our dental procedures include cleaning, periodontal disease treatment, and extractions if necessary. Each patient that is in for dental care gets a complete physical exam including an oral exam when they are awake plus any recommended pre-anesthetic lab work. The veterinarian evaluates all exam findings and lab tests to custom tailor an individual anesthesia protocol. Click here to read why we don’t recommend anesthesia free dental care.
Once under anesthesia a highly trained technician does a thorough oral exam and charting, takes full mouth digital radiographs to identify any problems below the gum line and carefully scales and polishes every tooth above and below the gum line. Any abnormal findings are reported to the veterinarian so a treatment plan can be made.
The veterinary team at CAH is fully qualified to perform routine dental prophylaxis, digital dental radiography, tooth extractions, periodontal therapy and oral tumor surgery.
Each of our patients goes home with a report card that contains a pre and post cleaning photo and a dental care tutorial.
Dental Home Care
Daily plaque removal is essential in maintaining good oral health. While daily brushing is the gold standard, we realize not every pet/owner is up for this task. In fact studies show that less than one percent of owners brush their pet’s teeth daily. To get the best results from your pet’s professional dental procedure home care is key. There are many options available besides a toothbrush and toothpaste. There are many choices available on the market from tartar control diets and treats to water additives and rinses. Our staff is trained to help you select the best home care method for your pet and your schedule.
